Summary
The Secret Wish List- a book based on how life could change without your knowledge even. What you have to do is just to make a WISH! The novel is centers around Diksha, a women who is responsible, caring, devoted to family or simply as what we call them a 'housewife'. Her day opens with her husband's morning coffee and breakfast. Her child's dubba and all other house work. Diksha's life was going with a occasional visit to her cousin Vibha's house where it all going to change her life completely. Have you thought about your wishes in your list? "So I want you to write down what is it that YOU want on the piece of paper. Put down everything that will make YOU happy. We need goals. Write down yours. No matter how crazy they seem or how unachievable. Do you have anything to lose by doing so?" Vibha requested to Diksha.
Diksha knows that nothing will be more stupid than writing a wish list at the age of 35. But Diksha agreed for the sake of her happiness. What would be in the wish list of a 30+ woman? A holiday, a day without any kitchen work or a long deep sleep. Diksha had write down whatever comes his mind and she was sure that even god can not make them true. How could "sex with a man other than husband' even possible ? Not at all. Similarly so many other stupid looking wishes were there. That night Diksha's mind have revisited all those images that were locked since those years. Her school, first crush, first boyfriend, that kiss, new city, school and college and early age marriage and that night where she and Ankit were........... Well, this is how the story begins and Diksha came back towards his routine life with her past. How her life and everything changes around her so effortlessly that even she didn't realised that her some of wishes completed, already? What happened to the rest of wishes? Go, read and know.
Meanwhile, the novel engages so many subplots in the story. A very awesomely written love story, a married life relations and struggels (of course!), long time strong friendship(very beautiful plot), modern family relations and journey of a girl stucked in the family and herself. You will found each one of them so relating. The way Diksha deal with her family at the end of the story is amazing.
Author
Novel was written by Preeti Shenoy. Preeti is an author of the best selling book 'Life is what you make it' and recently she has released it's sequel part 'Wake Up Life Is Calling'. She is also an artist, poet and blogger. She believes in the lessons of life and her each story exactly walk on that principle. Going through her stories is like watching ourselves through a time traveling window where we first fall in the eyes of that boy, then feel that strong beat in the breath. She has the mastery in explaining romantic scenes and touching emotions of indian woman. Perfect, sharp and full of soul. Her writing makes you really feel like it was you in the place of protagonist.
Praises & Critiques
I like the appealing cover page most which is one of the way to attract readers and it worked(on me at least!). The other thing is that it holds you with its very simple narration but full of spirit and emotions. It just take you inside the story and make you live with Diksha. You personally feel the love, hate, anger and compulsion. It is perfect for you if you are looking for some sweet, simple but interesting love story.
What I didn't like is that the story is quite predictable. You know what 'could be' the next scene or reply. With the simple languages, it was even a very known and straight story. Like a bechari ladki who forgot career, a rude, careless husband and a lovely past. It worked on the romantic level but lagged a little on the 'strong woman' concept. We find the overall scene same in most of the books of the author. So , somewhere after reading you will feel disappointed if you are looking for some different style love story.
Especially,a big disappointment for the fans who like the writing style of 'O Henry's' short stories (For more details on this topic, read other post on the topic named 'Short Story. Long Movie. Great Works' ).
Recommendations
If you enjoys Preeti's writing, you would like her other creations like ' Rule Breakers' and 'Life is what you make it'. You can try other authors on romantic novels like Chetan Bhagat.
Conclusion
Overall the books was good to spend 4 or 5 hrs with it. At the end, the romantic plot has pleased you so much that the characters will be with you for some time.
